Geocache Description:

Here is another cache in what has now become a National Numbered Series of Letterbox Hybrid caches in a very short space of time, placed to mark one of a diminishing number of post boxes placed in Queen Victoria’s reign and still in use for regular collections by Royal Mail.

There can be no doubt that the caching world has given Team Hippo their stamp of approval and we could not therefore let the opportunity go to waste, so have set one on a Post Box in a village where we both grew up and enjoyed life as teenagers.

So now you need to visit the published location and find the following information.

Which "Way" is the last post collected from the Reading Delivery Office?

Now enter that answer into the Certitude checker to get the final coordinates.

You can validate your puzzle solution with certitude.

For those cachers who do not have access to online services in the field you can determine the final coordinates as follows. Using the word you have found and attributing their letter values do the following.

N(8th)(1st-5th-1) (4th+2nd+1).(5th)(0)(5th+1) W001 0(2nd-5th).(1st)(1st)(4th-9)

Checksum of all digits = 43

A few notes from Team Hippo regarding these Victorian Post Box caches;

The self-inking rubber stamp in the cache is NOT a trade item, and must remain in the cache!

A few simple guidelines will apply to the series (subject to amendment):

  • The post box must carry the Royal Cipher of Queen Victoria (in whatever format)
  • The box must have regular collections by Royal Mail
  • The box must be in the British Isles (so United Kingdom and adjoining Crown Dependencies).
  • Any style or colour of box are valid as long as the above all apply

Please set the cache in whatever format you chose – just as long as it’s a Letterbox Hybrid! A picture would be good, but not essential. Please also include the following HTML at the bottom of your page:

If you know of an eligible post box and would like to add to this series, please apply to Team Hippo for a series number, giving the following:

  • Location as in place name (and street if applicable)
  • Location in Lat Long format (DD MM.MMM)
  • Postbox number

Please note that featured post boxes should comply with the guidelines above. Caches should be Letterbox Hybrid type (and therefore contain a LB stamp), whether placed at the published co-ords, or a simple offset multi, or multi-stage multi, or more of a puzzle style format.
