John Whitton (1819–1898) was an influential British-born engineer known as the "Father of the New South Wales Railways." Emigrating to Australia in 1856, he played a pivotal role in the development of the state's railway infrastructure. Whitton's visionary planning and engineering expertise facilitated the expansion of rail networks, significantly contributing to Australia's economic growth and development during the late 19th century.
