The Xintang Overseas Chinese Cemetery (新塘公墓中华墓园), established in 1963, is apparently the only state-owned cemetery in Guangzhou. With an adjoining cemetery it covers 600 acres or nearly 250 hectares of rolling hillside. A large multilevel bus depot to the north is one of few businesses willing to locate alongside it.

Daguan Beilu, with an elevated expressway connection to the airport lkely to be in operation before the end of 2024, passes it by like the River Styx. Charon perhaps waits nearby, though his boat has changed to an e-bike and he uses the pedestrian crossing and waits for the night bus.
Though less than 200m from the cemetery, the bridge here connecting to the modern office complexes to the west has a hopeful rather than funereal feel, and is one of few areas in the wetland park to be illuminated at night.
