Twenty years ago the the wetland park here consisted of 6 roughly rectangular ponds and was used for some sort of aquaculture. In 2007 the entire area of the 6 ponds (the wetland park north of the reservoir) was filled in, and until mid-2013 it was used for farming. Then in late 2013 construction of the Wetland Park started, with the park opening in 2015. The ponds are back, but in the form of smaller irregularly shaped lakes threaded with some connecting concrete walkways among the greenery.
It's an extremely impressive park, clearly designed for people to access and enjoy the nature of the wetland environment, something the park takes justifiable pride in based on the picture displays in the sheltered areas provided at periodic intervals (also a nice touch given the need to sometimes take cover from downpours, or seek out some shade).
In line with the people-oriented design, two basketball courts and a tennis court were incorporated into the park design.
Fast forward nine years and the wooden planks lining the walkway are in an advanced state of dilapidation, though this could be considered a kind of benign neglect, with the decaying wood providing a more natural feel in the park than a concrete walkway. The narrow concrete segments leading down to the water level connect through to the basketball courts and the whole park provides lots of surprising twists and turns and interconnections.
