Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Taconic State Parkway Todd Hill Rest Area and Taste of New York Store. If you are a local, enjoy the easy park and grab. If you are a tourist, make sure to check out all that the Hudson Valley has to offer.

Please park and access this cache from the parking the rest area. Do not park on the taconic. Please note that commerical vehicles including trailers and campers are NOT allowed on the taconic.

The Todd Hill Rest Area was constructed when the parkway was extended north between 1938 and 1955. It, along with the Shandaoah Rest Area just north of I-84 where it sits by itself currently) were to allow vacationers from the NYC metro to come upstate and enjoy the nature, history, and villages offered. The Todd Hill Rest Area was abandonded in the 1970s and stood dormant. In 2014, it reopened with a larger commuter lot and the Taste of New York Store, selling local produce to all who pass by. Currently, bathrooms are being installed to increase the capacity of the building.
