The Echidna is one of two mammals that lay eggs. It resembles our Hedgehog and Porchipin,e but its quills are hollow and very hard. In fact if a car runs over it, the car risks having a flat tire. It has no teeth but it's tongue is sticky and can be up to 16 cm long. A female will mate only one time a year, lays one egg in its pouch the size of a jelly bean. The egg will hatch in 10 days. The newborn is called a Puggle. The Puggle can stay near the nest for up to a year, then it is on its own. You find Echidna's in Australia and New Guinea.
The Cassowary is a flightless bird, approximatly the size of an Emu. They have a Keel on their head and are native to the tropical forest of New Guinea and Northeastern Australia. They also have large feet with extremely large claws, and with one swipe of their claws they can kill a human.They can jump more then 5 feet and can run up to 30 miles an hour They are the world's most dangerous bird. They are most active at twilight and have the claws of Freddy Krueger. Each toe has a 4 to 5 inch claw that it uses to defend itself and dig for fallen fruit. However, unprovoked, they are fairly shy and peaceful. They also have dangling skin pouches called a waddel.
