It seems mysterious how a cluster of buildings would be allowed like this to intrude on the edge of the reservoir. There was a building here opposite what was then a toll plaza but both toll plaza and building were cleared in 2006, with the site returned to grass and bushes. A cluster of buildings then took shape in 2010 including the one alongside the cache and the nearby gas station. At the same time a string of trucking and logistics related activities sprung up along the reservoir. By 2011 the site formed part of a string of truck parking areas extending all the way to the southern tip of the reservoir. This was short-lived. By 2014 all traces of the trucks parking, logistics and related activities had been cleared away, replaced by a return to grassland, with the exception of this outpost and the gas station alongside.
The building stands alone, cut off from the world around it. The reservoir adds to this sense of isolation, representing a natural distancing, and behind it the sprawling cemetery forms a more supernatural barrier. And finally, to literally top if off, the isolation is completed even from above, with the massive new expressway looming over and forever dooming the site. An off-ramp from the new expressway comes down immediately south of the cache and in future it will be interesting to see whether the walkway along the reservoir continues to be disrupted here. The pathway along the reservoir contuinues, further to the south, but requires walking around this building and the gas station along the main road for 130m. The lack of convenient continuity and the construction of the expressway ramp (in 2024) means few people use this part of the reservoir trail.
