In July 2024, a new cycle path was created in North Somerset stretching between Clevedon and Weston-super-Mare. Known as the ‘Pier to Pier Way cycle path’, this will hopefully also be part of the solution to fill in the gaps in the English Coast Path between these towns which should be resolved within the next two to three years. The 13 mile cycle route utilises footpaths, quiet road routes and traffic free stretches.
This series of caches will eventually run between the two piers and will gradually be created during the latter part of 2024 and early 2025 with the aim of it being fully completed in time for the Severn Mega in 2025. It will follow the official Pier to Pier route but may on occasion, utilise other public footpaths where these are more convenient or provide a more scenic route.
Grateful thanks is given to Sustainable Travel at North Somerset Council for giving their permission to create this series of caches.

This is the first of the caches and has had to be created as a Multi in view of other caches in the immediate location of the Pier itself
Clevedon Pier was built during the 1860s to provide a port service for people wishing to travel to South Wales and also to attract holiday-makers. It is over 1000 feet long and has a pavilion at the end. It opened in 1869 and paddle steamers plied their trade for many years. It was not all plain sailing though; in 1970 two of the spans collapsed and for a time it looked like the pier might have been demolished. However, thanks to local fund raising and heritage grants, it reopened in 1989. It has been described by Sir John Betjeman as the most beautiful pier in England and has been awarded Grade 1 listed building status.
The posted co-ordinates will take you to the entrance of the pier and, whilst you do not need to pay to go on the pier itself to complete this cache, I can certainly recommend that it is worth a trip. At this location you will see a plaque from which you need to identify the two years at the top of the plaque and apportion values as follows: ABCD-EFGH. The location of the cache can calculated as follows:
N51 26.(C-A-E)(G-A)E W002 51.(C+A)(H-D)(B/(A+E))
This location is muggle city so please use extreme stealth while searching, logging and replacing - thank you. Please replace where it should be.
As with all caching sites, when searching for caches please do not damage any wildlife or fauna; all caches have been placed to be found and within a couple of feet of the footpath.
20/9/24 - Formula updated to reflect revised final GZ co-ordinates.
5/5/26 - The work to restore Birnbeck Pier at the end of this series, is under way at last! Some roads and footpaths in the area are temporarily closed but this does not affect any of the caches.
12/5/26 - Formula updated to reflect revised final GZ co-ordinates.
