There's been talk, rumors and plans of building a hotel in North Bend for years.
Way back in 2008, plans were made to build a "national brand hotel" in North Bend. In mid-2014 ground was broken on the SE side of the Bendingo Blvd/412th Ave SE intersection. Site grading, utility placement occurred followed by site paving.
Everything was going along fine until work abruptly stopped. News eventually came out that King County had realized that the site under construction was a swamp/protected wetland. Work was immediately stopped upon this realization.
From then on no work occurred at the site and no news of what would happen to the site was announced. The city, county, contractors and hotel brand announced nothing related to the project.
Then, in early-2021 rumors and early confirmations of a new hotel project began to surface. Then, in mid-2021, the city of North Bend announced its plan to construct a hotel within the North Bend Outlet Mall complex.
Finally, after 16+ years and many different companies, real progress has been made on building a hotel. Demolition of a mall store began in late March and has recently been completed. Construction is scheduled to begin soon. The hotel is currently on track to open in late-2025.
The original Bendingo/412 Ave site sits abandoned to this day with only fencing, utility pipes and pavement remaining.
