Michigan Geocaching Organization (www.mi-geocaching.org) (MiGO) celebrates Michigan’s historic and present-day lighthouses. There are more than 120 lighthouses in Michigan, protecting mariners on four out of the five Great Lakes, Lake St. Clair, and other Michigan waterways.
This cache celebrates the Eagle Harbor Light.

Cache:
At the published coordinates you will find a trail marker post. At the top of the post is a sign with a single letter. Convert the letter to a number by the usual conversion (A=1, B=2, C=3...Z=26). Let this number be X.
North coordinate: Divide X by ten and discard any fraction or remainder. Add the result to the thousandths portion of the published North coordinate. This is the North coordinate of the final location.
West coordinate: Multiply X times itself. Subtract ten from the product. Subtract the result from the portion to the right of the decimal point of the minutes of the published West coordinate. This is the West coordinate of the final location.
Check: Sum of the last three digits of the North coordinate = 10. Sum of the last three digits of the West coordinate = 7.
This cache is located just off one of the many trails in Sleepy Hollow State Park. It was placed for the sixth annual Camp MiGO event. Most of the trails are well groomed and hard packed making a bicycle a great way to get to the caches in the area.
The Camp MiGO caches this year celebrate Michigan lighthouses. Lighthouses played an important part in development of Michigan and Great Lakes shipping and commerce. Those lighthouses that are still active are still used today by commercial shipping and recreational boaters to improve safety for all who use any or all of the four Great Lakes in Michigan.
Keep in mind during hunting season to be aware of hunters in the area. Hunting is allowed most non-summer months, generally from September 15 until April 1st each year, so please be careful and dress appropriately, including Hunter Safety Orange, when hunting is allowed.
A Recreation Passport is required for all vehicles entering Sleepy Hollow State Park. They are best purchased with your Michigan license plate, but are also available at the park.
