Geocache Description:

DK

ENG

The Munkholm bridge is a 114 meter long road bridge approx. 6 km above the inner part of the Isefjord, southeast of Holbæk, which connects the area around Holbæk (Holbæk Municipality) with Hornsherred (Lejre Municipality). The bridge is 12.5 meters high (from the middle arch to the water surface).

The bridge is a low bridge with a superstructure of three sets of reinforced concrete arches with different spans. The bridge was designed by Anker Engelund.

The bridge is built in connection with a dam that is built across the islet and the island of Munkholm to the old ferry port Langtved with Bramsnæs Bay to the north and Tempelkrog, which is the innermost part of the Isefjord, to the south.

The bridge was completed in 1951 and inaugurated in June 1952 in the presence of, among others, then Minister for Public Works Jørgen Jørgensen and Minister of Social Affairs Poul Sørensen. There used to be a small passenger ferry on the site, and Langtved Færgekro, which burned down on 28 October 2009, was located at the old ferry site, where the bridge is connected to Hornsherred.

The Munkholm bridge is used in the films about Me and my little brother as the bridge to the fictional island of Bomø, where the brothers live, and the films in general take place.

The cache is located at the start and the stamp must remain in the cache.
