This cache is situated on Birthwaite Road, Windermere. Birthwaite was a hamlet on the shore of Lake Windermere before the arrival of the Kendal and Windermere railway. When the railway was built, the rail company named the station after the lake. Development occurred and the name Windermere was used for this new town, instead of Birthwaite.
