Bear loved the water! Swimming alone in the Indian Ocean early in the morning, swimming a lap or two in a pool in the heat of the day, and here on the mountain, he found this pond as the snow melted in the spring. If you come in April-June, you should find Bear's Pond with water in it. By early July, there may only be a small puddle of water left in the depression with lots of water loving plants and grasses growing around -- but the hollow of the pond will still be recognizable. In the winter, even when the snow falls deep, you can usually see a depression in the snow marking the pond that will come back in Spring. The back of the pond is lined with a thick aspen forest. Bear's Pond cache is on the north side of the pond, in a grove of 3 fused aspen. If you have a chance, play in the water and tromp through the mud to Bear's Pond cache, or walk around the edge of the pond to the north side into the aspen grove.
