As someone who has studied and taught music for most of my life, this is one of my favourite topics to pair with one of my favourite hobbies….geocaching!
OBOE
The oboe is a woodwind instrument that requires a reed to make the sound. What makes it different from a clarinet is that it is a double reed and the air must flow between the two reeds. It creates a more nasal sound which is very unique. It tends to be used in music that needs a haunting quality to the sound.
Aside from the difficulty in playing an oboe, there is also the difficulty of honing the reeds to be “just right”. Any oboist I have known has spent almost as much time working on their reeds as in practicing.
