My first cache is simply a Log Book and Pencil cache in a pleasant area that used to be coalmining,a lot of the lakes were caused by subsidence after the mines were closed, and there are many good walks nearby with The Miners’ Walk, Coventry Canal, Alvecote Priory, Alvecote Marina(and Pub), and Pooley Country Park
There is a free Car Park in Polesworth and you can walk along the canal past Pooley Hall(where Edwin Starr once lived)
Or you can Pay and Display in the Car Park at Visitor Centre, £3.30 to park all day, where cafe is available for refreshments, and toilets if needed.
This GZ is best approached from the Visitor Centre direction,
From the canal bridge NW of VC a good path is clearly visible- not the steep one- the one that goes round the back of the hill !
The Pooley Hall Colliery became the North Warwickshire Colliery in 1951 when the mine workings from Alvecote, Amington and Pooley met underground. It was the first mine to generate its own electricity (from excess steam) in the early 1920s, and also the first to have pit head baths, which were opened in 1928. Former Pooley and North Warwickshire miners have donated memorabilia to the Visitor Centre
Golden Tower of Leaves
A golden tower of leaves, was commissioned as part of the regeneration of Pooley being delivered by the county council and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA). It was chosen following consultation with local people to help revitalise and create a strong identity for the area’s regeneration.
Cache placed with the kind permission of the Country Parks Team (Warks C.C.)
Congratulations to Geo_Brain for being the First To Find, well done matey
