Nasze niebo pełne jest niesamowitych obiektów które warto fotografować. Wiele z nich, szczególnie tych bardziej rozpoznawalnych, posiada swoje ogólnie przyjęte nazwy. Znanych ludzkości obiektów jest jednak zbyt dużo żeby kazdemu nadać nazwę. Pomijam tutaj gwiazdy, ale samych tzw "Obiektów Glębokiego Nieba" (DSO - deep space object) czyli gromad gwiazd, galaktyk i mgławic jest bardzo wiele.
Astronomowie nadają im zatem numery i umieszczają w katalogach. Najobszerniejszym spośród powszechnie używanych przez astrofotografów-amatorów katalogów takich obiektów jest NGC - New General Catalogue. Zawiera on prawie 8 tysięcy różnych obiektów, a od pory jego opublikowania poznaliśmy ich oczywiście dużo więcej.
Nie jest on jednak jedyny. Najpopularniejsze obiekty zazwyczaj znajdują się w innych, mniej obszernych a łatwiejszych w przeglądaniu katalogach.
Na zdjęciu mojego autorstwa zamieszczonym poniżej można by znaleźć co najmnniej 4, a zapewne więcej obiektów z katalogu NGC. Skupmy się jednak na tych innych, mniej obszernych katalogach. Zdjęcie przedstawia dwa widocznie osobne obiekty. Każdy z nich posiada swój numer w katalogu innym niż NGC, chociaż nie jest to ten sam katalog dla obu tych obiektów. Jakie są te numery? Mniejszy z nich to azymut od punktu GPS do skrytki. Większy to odległość w metrach.

Our sky is full of amazing objects worth photographing. A lot of them, especially the most recognizable ones, have commonly recognized names. However, the number of objects known to humanity is much too great to assign a name to each one. Even discounting the stars, there are plenty of Deep Space Objects (DSO) alone, such as star clusters, galaxies and nebulae.
Therefore, astronomers assign numbers to such objects, and place them in catalogues. The most extensive and detailed catalogue commonly used by astrophotography amateurs is the NGC - New General Catalogue. It contains almost 8 thousand various objects, and we have of course discovered many more since its publication.
It is not, however, the only one. The most popular objects will usually have their place in less extensive, but easier to browse catalogues.
On my photograph pasted below, you could name at least 4, and most likely more objects from the NGC catalogue. However, let's focus on the other, less extensive catalogues. The photo depicts 2 clearly separate objects. Each of them has a number in a catalogue different than NGC, although it is not the same catalogue in both cases. What are their numbers? The smaller of the 2 numbers is the azimuth from the GPS waypoint to the cache. The larger one is the distance in meters.
