Fredericka the Frog needs your help. She is hiding out in Fairmont in order to escape being snatched by Humboldt the Frog Hunter. Fredericka found a safe spot to call home and wants geocachers to visit and sign their name on the guest log. Feel free to take a photo of Fredericka when you visit her, then tuck her back in her hidey-hole where Humboldt can't find her!
Footnote 1 - Fredericka is a feminine variant of the name Frederick and is of Germanic origin. It means "peaceful queen" or "peaceful ruler".
Footnote 2 - frog hunting is legal in most U.S. states and, in West Virginia, frog hunting season lasts from mid-June to the end of July. There are laws and regulations that apply to frog hunting, most important of which is that a hunting license is required. There is a daily limit and restrictions on methods used to catch frogs. This is good news for Fredericka! And, now that it is August, Fredericka is safe for the next 10.5 months.
Footnote 3 - the goliath frog is the largest species of frog in the world, measuring up to 12.6 inches from snout to vent. Their habitat is a small tropical region of Cameroon and Equitorial Guinea on the African continent. Goliath frogs are classified as an endangered species. Fredericka is not a goliath frog. She is of indeterminate origins and is of average size.
