Raptor Rangers: Iowa History Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

jujubee_p: Thank you so much for everyone that participated in this cache! It has been amazing to see everyone’s comments about this beautiful site. The tree that held this cache has since been removed with the cache inside it :( but the beauty and history of the indigenous tradition preserved here remain the same. I’m looking forward to more adventures in this park! Thanks for playing!

Geocache Description:

This cache was placed by the University of Iowa Wildlife camp. It is placed near a recreation of a Wikiup, a traditional Meskwaki structure. A Wikiup was used as a winter home and was made of willow branches and giant cattail mats. These structures are still used today by Meskwaki people as a way to keep tradition. This is hidden a short hike away from Falcon Shelter (parking) in the Macbride Nature Center. The gates do close at night, but it is a public park accessible during the day. The container has a red lid and is around 6-7 inch square.
