On December 26 2005 - twenty years ago this day and one day after receiving a Garmin 60cs for Christmas - CaptainMath and family embarked on a new journey by finding his first ever geocache, Welcome, by Ziggy Crew still active only a short walk away from this event.
Please come and join us for a celebration of twenty years of geocaching, the Captain's Vicennial, even if you can only make it for a portion of the time. You are invited to get lunch with us at Wendy's (waypoint provided), but it is not required to get lunch in order to attend the event. More importantly, please come and join us at 12noon in the Matamoras Visitor's Center (waypoint provided) and enjoy some free goodies at the site of the geocache, Welcome, by Ziggy Crew, which launched CM and a whole lot of others into geocaching way back in 2005 - this cache is STILL ACTIVE TODAY!
We have been granted permission to celebrate inside the visitors center's main room and besides the free yummies, we will have a random door prize drawing for some special coins and trackables. And afterwards - of course - you'll have a chance at some more smilies on and near the site of the group photo at the visitor's center.
We anticipate doing a very special group photo around 12 noon, hopefully at the site of Ziggy Crew's long-living old geocache, and another inside the visitor's center where the door prize drawing will take place.
Here's the plan...
11am - 11:50am Wendy's Lunch and Geochat 11-11:50am, (no purchase necessary to attend).
12 noon: event photo taken at the site of my first find made 20 years ago, the geocache, "Welcome"
Door prizes awarded new caches/AL released: winners drawn from Will-Attend list, must be present at time of drawing (12noon) to win.
12:30pm - 1pm: New ALs/caches released
(The door prizes will include unactivated geocoins, unactivated trackables, and possibly a few other geo-goodies.)
Don't miss being with us especially 12noon - 12:30pm when we do the group photo, prize drawing, etc..
