SideTracked 2025 - 18th Anniversary Event
Every year in the UK, and around the world, SideTracked Events are held on August 10th (SideTracked Day) to celebrate the placement of the first SideTracked cache in the series - GC15082.

About This Event
From at least 3-5pm, we will meet to celebrate this auspicious occasion with geocaching banter and such. How appropriate to have it at SideTracked Brewery!

Food and drink are available. As always, no purchase is necessary to attend this event. Bring any travelers that need to be moved on, as a few cachers will be heading out on various trips.
Morganton Depot

Construction for the Western North Carolina Railroad began in 1857 and halted just east of Morganton at the beginning of the Civil War in 1861. It was not until the War ended that construction began again and the rail line reached Old Fort by 1869. The first Morganton Depot was built around 1870 on the other side of the track, not where it is located today. By 1886 a new passenger station was built to handle an ever increasing number of travelers. Passenger service on this east/west rail line ended in the 1970s.
In 2004, the depot was restored to its 1916 appearance. It is owned by the City of Morganton and is operated by The History Museum of Burke County. Admission is free and it's open on Saturdays from 1pm to 3pm.
About SideTracked Caches
SideTracked caches are a popular series familiar to anyone that has been caching in the United Kingdom. SideTracked caches are intended to provide a quick cache n' dash at train stations. Here in the US, we don't have too many passenger trains anymore, but in many cases we'll have an old train station, or the memory of one. This series allows us to look into our railroad history, and grab a quick cache. More information can be found at the SideTracked Website.
