Geocache Description:

Welcome one and all to the Matrix Family World Post Card Day Party -  a Community Celebration Cache event.

Postcards have always been a way to send a slice of travels or special occasions with friends and relatives, a short note to say HI, or just a silly card to brighten someone's day.  Seems like a perfect fit with Geocaching, to me.

In coordination with the Big Rock Park District and Geocaching itself, this event geared to all skill levels of caching, or none at all, with the added bonus of sending postcards to people you know, and even getting a souvenier or two.  World Postcard Day is October first, so we'll be helping to keep this fun kind of communication going in this era of email, texts and other instant communications, a bit of retro fun.

I will bring various postcards made from photos I've taken and a few cards I've gathered over the years, or you can bring your own cards for yourself or to share.  Finally a use for all those souvenier postcards you kept and have never used!  You can also send me a picture that you think is good for cards and I will try to make some of those as well.  Please bring stamps if you can, or plan to get them into the mail within the week to honor the day.  As an incentive, I will pay for postage for cards going internationally and we'll have prizes for the furthest distance a card is being sent, the most cards being mailed, and maybe other categories as come to mind. Plus I'll bring some snacks and might be able to rustle up the charcoal grill at the park if enough people are interested.  I expect we may have some new or GeoCaching curious visitors, thanks to the Big Rock Park District helping to put the word in the streets, so feel free to bring you expertise, if you'd like, as we'll be talking all things Caching.

We'll be meeting in the Hake Park Pavillion in Big Rock, near the corner of 6th and Madison, a block east of Rhoades street.  There are picnic tables and the public restrooms should be open.  Pavillion is wheelchair accessible from the parking lot and there are signed spaces there.  The playground is right next to the pavillion with swings, slides and other kid centric fun, as is a sandbox and giant chess set, if you like a challenge.  There are a couple of caches in the park, if you've not found them yet, and I'll try to add a few other new one's to coincide with the event.

12:00 noon - 2:00pm, or as long as we want to stay, although the Bears game will start at 3:15!

There now follows a brief note from HQ about this type of event.
