Geocache Description:

On 1st August 2024, Pointerdogg was awarded this Community Celebration Event and on 9th December 2024, he posted a reviewer note on the page saying "Can't wait!". Sadly, Pointerdogg, a cherished member of our geocaching community and a dear friend to many, left us far too soon on 25th August 2025. So we'll use his event to celebrate his contributions to our community, the most recent being the nearby lab cache art.

The event will take place at the picnic tables at the posted coordinates from 1200 to 1400 on Saturday 18th October 2025.

We will all have our own memories of Stevie, so come along and share them, complete the nearby labs and sign the logbook to mark the high esteem in which he is held.

He is deeply missed and forever remembered.

Stephen Ferguson (Pointerdogg)

Beloved Geocacher, Friend, and Creative Soul

With over 1,200 geocache hides to his name he was a force of nature within the game. His love of exploration and his creativity brought joy and adventure to many of us. Never one to rest on his laurels, his passion and drive most recently resulted in the lab cache art installation around GC43. It is a thoughtful tribute to geocaching’s history that blended creativity with deep respect for the game’s roots. It now stands as a testament to his imagination and generosity of spirit gathering together and involving cachers from near and far in pursuit of his dream.

Important to our community as he was in providing us with the many caches he placed, his enduring legacy will be the friendship he offered to all he met. Stevie was always ready with a kind word, a helpful hand, or a bit of non geocaching wisdom shared over a cup of coffee or at the final waypoint of a long multi. Those who knew Stevie will remember his good humour, his open heart, and his unwavering belief in community. Above all he brought people together. Through him many of us came to understand that geocaching was as much, if not more, about the journey to the cache and the companionship on the journey than the Tupperware at the end. That made the world just a little more magical.

It's hard to acknowledge that we will never hear the phrases "pet" and "Dougal" in his distinctive Scottish lilt. Stevie’s legacy lives on in every logbook signed, every smiley earned, and every new friendship sparked by one of his hides. We’ll carry his spirit with us in every step off the beaten path.

Thanks to all at Geocaching Ireland for the use of their words above.

This Event is part of a limited release of Community Celebration Events to celebrate 25 years of geocaching. Geocachers hosted events between January 1, 2025 and December 31, 2025. Learn more about Community Celebration Events on the Geocaching Blog.
