We were honoured to be selected by Groundspeak to host one of the Community Celebration Events. After much deliberation, we decided to host our event out at Elk Island National Park.
This event will happen on Saturday, June 28, 2025. (Please note that this is a date change due to the forecasted poor weather on the original date of June 21.) The official event will run from 11:30am until 1:30pm.
The posted coordinates are located on the shore of High Island, which is located on Astotin Lake within Elk Island National Park. We've also posted the coordinates for the recommended parking area, as well as the boat launch. All participants are encouraged to bring whatever safety gear you need to safely make it to the island and back again (lifejackets, etc.). Don't take any unnecessary risks!!
In order to attend the Community Celebration Event, you will need to figure out a way of getting out to the posted coordinates (by boat, canoe, stand-up paddleboard, paddleboat, scuba gear, inner tube & water wings, etc.). You must make it out to the posted coordinates to qualify as attending this event. Simply waving from the beach or from the parking lot doesn't count!
The event is happening over the lunch hour and is intended to be a picnic-style event, so bring along your lunch or snacks, as well as any liquids you need to stay hydrated. (Please no alcohol, due to the safety risks of drinking and boating.)
As a reminder, since this event is happening within a national park, there is a fee to enter the park. You can use a Parks Canada Discovery Pass or purchase a day pass at the gate.
There will be a log book availble for people to sign if they wish. We hope to see you there!
