Geocache Description:

26 August 2024, 12:00 - 13:00

*** BYOP = Bring Your Own Picnic ***

The 19th instalment of the Lad(d)ies What Lunch series of events.  It all started when Fiona, Helen and I attended a lunch event back in November 2022 and signed all logs on caches we found that day as Ladies What Lunch. The extra D has been added to ensure we can be inclusive of all cachers. This one is also geopooch friendly.

Due to various commitments over the summer holidays, this proved to be the only day in the whole month we could all do. As it happens to fall on August Bank Holiday Monday, pretty much everywhere is likely to be packed full with muggles and mugglets. So we agreed that an outdoor picnic might be better. The parks will be busy and many also host events. There are various scenic places I considered, but I wanted something with parking, a view and no yomping across moorland.

In my opinion, Holme Moss carpark has one of the best views in Yorkshire. The council must think so too as there is one of those 'frame the landscape' things for folk taking photos. Let's hope the weather obliges! Plenty of free parking space here. The grass is fairly flat around the edge if you want to bring a deckchair, otherwise there are plenty of large rocks to sit on.

I've made the event just half an hour, in case the weather is bad, but hopefully we will be lucky and able to stay and chat for a lot longer. There are no toilets up here, the nearest ones being back down in the village below, opposite the pub. That's even more of a trek than at a 'Spoons!

The T rating reflects the fact that it's a bit of an 'interesting' drive by car, even in good weather. You could cycle (many do). Click HERE to see details and stats about the route, which was sufficiently challenging to be used in the Grand Départ of the 2014 Tour de France. I would not recommend walking up as there are no footpaths and several hairpin bends.

You CAN get there by bus, click HERE for details.

So, fingers crossed for fine weather and BYOP!
