This poor bridge really cops a hiding! Especially since 2019! I can only imagine the engineers that designed it were not expecting the bridge to go under so many times.
I used to swim here as a teenager with my friends, paricipating in activites I would consider frivolous these days, but we never ventured over the bridge, and I actually don't recall if this bridge was here way back then! But when I was researching this hide, I was very surprised to see the remnants of two previous bridges below and beside this structure. These days, the bridge also has its own camera keeping a check on its conditions I would imagine during times of flood.
At this particular moment, with so very much construction going on, the bridge certainly shudders when the big trucks cross it!
The first road bridge across the river was built in 1855 which replaced a causeway in a different location. This bridge was destroyed in the 1867 floods, which i can only assume was replaced by the structure that is still clearly visible today.
But the question remains, will it survive? The bigger question is, will the cache survive? Time will tell!
Remember, as always with this type of hide, its important not to overtighten!
