This is the 122st 3rd Tuesday in Eldersburg. 3TIE is a monthly event for Geocachers to get together and share the joys and travails encountered in the pursuit of Finds. There are often discussions of puzzle solutions. And Panera has food. It is a great time!
We all know that the Earth spins about an axis that is inclined with respect to the plane of the Earth's movement about the Sun. But perhaps we don't think about it much. The angle of the Earth's inclination is, approximately, an appreciable 23.4°. The existence of the Seasons and the varying length of days over the year are because ot the Earth's 23.4° tilt. The length of day at any location is determined by its latitude as well as the day of the year. High latitudes see the greatest changes in day length over the year while day length at the Equator is unchanging at a bit more than 12 hours. The relatively short days in the low latitudes seemed very strange to British sailors centuries ago who associated warm weather with the very long days they knew from Summer in England. It makes complete sense. Have you experienced the short days ot the tropics?
