Bij het Binnenhof in Den Haag is een uitkijktoren geplaatst. Het bouwwerk staat vlak bij de Hofvijver, is bijna dertig meter hoog, heeft 148 treden en biedt uitzicht op onder meer het
Binnenhof.
De toren is geplaatst in samenspraak met de gemeente, omwonenden en ondernemers en is bedoeld om de omgeving aantrekkelijk te houden.
De uitkijktoren geeft bezoekers de mogelijkheid het Binnenhof, dat door een renovatie grotendeels is afgesloten, alsnog te bekijken.
De toren is in juli 2024 officieel geopend door minister Keijzer van Ruimtelijke Ordening. Ze noemt de toren een trekpleister.
"Voor de toeristen is het een fantastische manier om te zien wat er gebeurt met de renovatie. Je hebt een mooi overzicht van het Binnenhof en de gebouwen daarin, maar ook het belangrijke werk wat daar plaatsvindt."
Maximaal zestig mensen tegelijk kunnen gebruikmaken van de toren en de toegang (Tussen 09:00 - 17:00) is gratis. De renovatie van het Binnenhof is op zijn vroegst eind 2028 afgerond. Tot die tijd blijft de toren er staan.
De Haagse cabaretier Sjaak Bral riep als eenkoppige jury de naam 'Kijksteiger' uit tot grote winnaar. Of, in het Haags: 'De Kèkstègâh'.
A lookout tower has been placed at the Binnenhof in The Hague. The structure is located close to the Hofvijver, is almost thirty meters high, has 148 steps and offers a view of, among other things, the
Courtyard.
The tower was installed in consultation with the municipality, local residents and entrepreneurs and is intended to keep the area attractive.
The lookout tower gives visitors the opportunity to view the Binnenhof, which has been largely closed off due to renovation.
The tower was officially opened in July 2024 by Minister of Spatial Planning Keijzer. She calls the tower an attraction.
"For tourists it is a fantastic way to see what is happening with the renovation. You have a nice overview of the Binnenhof and the buildings within it, but also the important work that is taking place there."
A maximum of sixty people can use the tower at the same time and admission (Between 09:00 - 17:00) is free. The renovation of the Binnenhof will not be completed until the end of 2028 at the earliest. Until then, the tower will remain there.
The Hague comedian Sjaak Bral, as a one-man jury, declared the name 'kijksteiger' the big winner. Or, in The Hague: 'De Kèkstègâh'.
