You may be wondering where in the world you are after glancing up at the sign of this US Postal Service branch. "Hudson City, you say? Never heard of it." Welp, Hudson City, NJ has ceased to exist. Don't worry, you have not!
A little known fact outside of Jersey City Heights is that our fantastic neighborhood was its own city before joining Jersey City. Founded in 1840 and incorporated in 1855, this mile and half square of urban delight was Hudson City. 175 years ago there were about 3,000 people living here, while the population now is about 60,000. For reference, that means we're more densely populated than all of the outer boroughs across the Hudson in the Big Apple.
Enjoy this cache and the many, many things Central Avenue (and the rest of former Hudson City) has to offer! Within a couple blocks are coffee shops, bakeries, a butcher, restaurants and more that match and blow away anything you'll find in this region, let alone the rest of Jersey City.
