La Compañía Nacional de Danza de México es la más antigua del país. Se fundó en 1963 como Ballet Clásico de México por iniciativa de Celestino Gorostiza, entonces titular del Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes y Literatura (INBAL).
Gorostiza impulsó la fusión de dos grupos independientes: Ballet Concierto, dirigido por Felipe Segura, y Ballet de Cámara, dirigido por Nellie Happee y Tulio de la Rosa. Lo que llevó a una aleación de géneros clásico, neoclásico y contemporáneo, y dio paso al nacimiento de una agrupación estable de ballet en el país que, desde entonces, se enfoca en rescatar el repertorio de la época de oro de la danza de México y el mundo e impulsa el trabajo de ballets clásicos y contemporáneos.
A más de 50 años de su creación, con 44 bailarinas, 28 bailarines, 1 régisseur, 6 maestros y 3 directores -dos artísticos y uno ejecutivo-, la también llamada CND sigue cumpliendo sus principales objetivos, entre los que se encuentran: preservar la tradición de los ballets clásicos, al mismo tiempo de enriquecerse con obras contemporáneas; crear proyectos para atraer a niños y jóvenes con el propósito de estimular su creatividad y sensibilidad, y continuar contribuyendo en lograr una mejor educación en México.

The National Dance Company of Mexico is the oldest in the country. It was founded in 1963 as Ballet Clásico de México at the initiative of Celestino Gorostiza, then head of the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBAL).
Gorostiza promoted the merger of two independent groups: Ballet Concerto, directed by Felipe Segura, and Ballet de Cámara, directed by Nellie Happee and Tulio de la Rosa. Which led to an alloy of classical, neoclassical and contemporary genres, and gave way to the birth of a stable ballet group in the country that, since then, focuses on rescuing the repertoire of the golden age of dance in Mexico and the world and promotes the work of classical and contemporary ballets.
More than 50 years after its creation, with 44 dancers, 28 dancers, 1 régisseur, 6 teachers and 3 directors - two artistic and one executive -, the also called CND continues to fulfill its main objectives, among which are: preserving the tradition of classical ballets, at the same time being enriched with contemporary works; create projects to attract children and young people with the purpose of stimulating their creativity and sensitivity, and continue contributing to achieving a better education in Mexico.
