***This cache was placed with the intention of being found as part of the GAG32 event, which begins at 6:00p.m. on Friday, September 20, 2024.***
The cache is not at the posted coordinates, but you can find it by solving the simple puzzle below to find the actual coordinates for the cache.
CanCon (Canadian Content) rules are intended primarily for broadcast media and the Canadian Football League. However, due to shadowy rumours that they might somehow be applied to GAG event caches, we (waxwing454 and MAPSIT) wanted to ensure that, despite pirate references being primarily a Caribbean and African thing, the GAG32 event wouldn’t get cited for a violation. Toward this end, we’ve chosen to base this GAG32 cache on a very Canadian work, Captain Tractor’s “The Last Saskatchewan Pirate.”
To calculate the coordinates for this cache, all you have to do is listen to the song (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lj9Zmir79bs), answer a few easy questions (below) about it (we even give you the numbers of letters or words in the answers!), take some digital roots (https://www.geocachingtoolbox.com/index.php?lang=en&page=wordValue will do this for you), and then do some simple one(!)-function math. There are no projections, no cryptography, no plane or spherical trigonometry, no esoteric mathematical functions, no silly puns, no obscure measurement units, no brain twisting riddles, and no quirky GPS settings to explore. And so that you don’t waste your time, we’re even including a geochecker. Easy peasy! (Well, then, there is the matter of parking. Pirates are not known for their skills at it, but geocachers are.)
Let A be the DR of the beverage commonly made from the second grain mentioned in the chorus. (4 letters)
Let B be the DR of the name of the fellow who turns to piracy when he loses his job as a Mountie. (3 letters - the witch doctor put him on a sodium free diet...)
Let C be the DR of Captain Tractor's career prior to turning to piracy. (6 letters)
Let D be the DR of what the government offered Captain Tractor. (3 words)
Let E be the DR of the U.S. state to which the singer plans to go during the winter. (2 words)
Let F be the DR of the growth agent stolen by Captain Tractor. (10 letters)
Let G be the DR of the number of words in the chorus that start with "H".
Let H be the DR of the number of employees who had just been let go. (use the numeral, not the word...)
Let I be the DR of the city characterized as having "mighty shores".(6 letters)
Let J be the DR of the location in which Captain Tractor hides. (3 letters)
In the further interests of minimizing any frustration on your part, you should now have derived ten digits whose sum has a digital root of 8. And of course, there's the geochecker as mentioned above.
This GAG32 cache can then be found at –
N45 [J] [C]. [G-A] [F] [D-B], W075 [I-H-B-J] [D-F-H].[E-H-B] [G] [C-A]
where the expressions in square brackets should evaluate to single digits.
Avast ye landlubbers, and bon voyage!
