Geocache Description:

The walk: A short walk (0.3 miles) along the River Tarf in the lovely wee village of Kirkcowan. After finding the cache you can either return the way you came, or explore the woodland walk that takes you behind and along the village (enter via the path behind you). It's not a big village so you'll eventually find your way back to the main road.

The area: There used to be two woollen mills beside the River Tarf, built in the 1700s ... "The location for the mill was chosen because of the softness of the water in the River Tarff and the drop in level of the river which provided a fast current to drive the water wheel" (info about Kirkcowan here). As you near the cache you'll see the tall mill chimney still standing.

The cache: A plastic container containing paper, pencil, sharpener and a few wee swaps for kids.

Enjoy smiley
