My last hide near here lacked visits and then went missing so I figured a new hide was in order.
Originally opened in 1967, Avalon Mall quickly established itself and emerged as the premier shopping destination in St. John’s. At only one-storey tall with 35 stores, Avalon Mall has grown exponentially since to best serve our loyal shoppers and keep up with changing consumer wants.
Many visitors fondly remember one of our original tenants Woolco for being a bustling and lively department store for generations of shoppers. While Woolco eventually closed its doors and was replaced by Walmart and eventually Sears, it was an integral part of the original Avalon Mall community and provides lasting memories and nostalgia for its customers.
Throughout the years, Avalon Mall has undergone several significant upgrades aimed at delivering the highest quality shopping experience for customers. While recent renovations have been some of the biggest to date, Avalon Mall has had many upgrades including adding our second storey in 1977 and expanding the upper level in 1987.
In 2017, Avalon Mall proudly celebrated its 50th anniversary! To commemorate this milestone, an event was held to celebrate with a tribute remake by local musicians and comedians of the classic “Babylon Mall” song from 1981.
