Welcome to the Monuments & Multis Series — M&M Series
.
The Island has numerous small monuments & plaques commemorating oft forgotten people, places & events that played a role in the history of the Island. Most such commemorative reminders, if noticed at all, are usually driven by without stopping or reading. This series hopes to highlight the Island’s past through a number of quick, 2-stage multi caches that require visiting & reading such plaques.

The worst train accident in Prince Edward Island's history occurred in this lonely spot on a bitterly cold winter night in 19WW. Handrahan's Cutting (railwaymen had names for each one) was located a mile from the terminus in Tignish. On February evening, Saturday the XX, regular freight train #211 ran into the cutting and stuck solid in deep snow. The evening was clear but heavy ground drift had built up 15 feet of packed snow on over 100 feet of track. The train signalled for help and a crew arrived to shovel it out. At about two o'clock in the morning express train #YY, with two engines on front behind a steel wedge snowplow, stopped at the water tank about 275 metres (300 yards) down the track. They were aware that #211 had been stuck earlier but they could see little in the ground drift. Reasoning that #211 had reached Tignish and the cutting had drifted in again, they poured on the steam to cut through it. The plow split the baggage car from end to end, tossed two other cars up on the bank and severely twisted the coal car and engine. Four people died that night. Eleven others were badly injured.
Add "WW", "XX" and "YY" together to get "Z" and use “Z” in the following equation to obtain the nearby final cache coordinates:
N46 56.(Z + 840) W064 03.(Z + 16)
Checksum: N=40, W=18
