Treasure Island Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

St. Ouens: Alas, this cache has been short-lived. By whatever indeterminate cause, the cache and contents have gone. Since the cause is unknown I have no option but to archive the cache as to replace it simply begs the same outcome.

Geocache Description:

The above coordinates are NOT the location of the cache. A mixture of desk research and onsite exploration will be required to find the cache location.  Good Luck.

  • I am an island with many names and several ships have been wrecked on my shores. You don’t need a boat to visit but do check the tides
  • In the 18th Century the island was a seasonal residence for the paramount chief Kiwi Tamaki
  • Five of the roads running north to south are named after people – a husband and wife, a brother, and two business friends
  • Three of the people were mayors and together they were directors of a company
  • The husband ran a transport business and one road name reveals what that business was
  • A post-office, a fire-station, a library and a museum all have the same street number

The Cache will be found here: S36 AB.CDF E174 GH.JKL

AB = The number of house lots when the island was subdivided in the 1900s, minus 200

C = The number of sons and daughters of the husband and wife, plus the number of brothers of the husband

DF = There are still post-office boxes (no longer used) – five down, four across

GH = The year one mayor was awarded an OBE

J = On the road named after the brother, look for Old Father Time and use the house number

K = Add the letter values (A=1, Z=26) of the two 4 letter European names for the Island and subtract 100

L = The street number shared by the post office, the fire station, the library and the museum minus the year in the 20th century when the island was officially named by the New Zealand Geographic Board
