This bridge, opened in October 2025, is part of a project replacing the large diameter bulk water pipeline across the Hutt River in Upper Hutt. But rather than just being a bridge with a pipe on it, it also contains a walking and cycling path.
While the less charitable among our citizenry would suggest it was only made accessible to walkers and cyclists to allow Wgtn Water to access a variety of alternative funding sources, the fact remains that it is a great asset to the Hutt Valley, linking Silverstrem to the Manor Park Golf course without the need to use the "path" on the Silverstream bridge where a sudden gust of wind could blow the unwary cyclist or walker under the nearest car or truck.

One of the most amazing things about the bridge is that it was started in January 2023 with a projected competion date of October 2025 ..... and it actually opened in October 2025! Hopefully this is a sign of things to come for other infrastructure projects that seem to drag on years after the supposed completion date and double or more in cost ........ I'm looking at you Transmission Gully and Haywards Hill (and pretty much every other infrastructure project in the last 50 years) .....
