Harry the furry squid and
Optimist on the run's
Path To Marriage
#1 - Introduction
What do thick fog, a dead magpie, Scunthorpe steelworks and a plague of rats in Aberystwyth have in common?
You can discover the answer from this series of 17 caches, placed to celebrate the engagement of Harry the furry squid and Optimist on the run. Each cache tells the story of separate stages of our geocaching lives from birth to engagement. The series is designed to be done on foot as a circular walk of about 5 miles, and should take about 3 to 4 hours. Alternatively the final caches #10 and #12 to #17 can be done as drive-bys, though some walking is required for #17.
If you're doing the full series on foot please be aware that the public footpath near the M6 toll between #3 and #7 is segregated from the fields, and may be very overgrown, especially during summer. It may also be muddy in places. Long trousers and sleeves are strongly recommended, and progress may be slow through this section. The path is not accessible for wheelchair users or buggies, and a climb over a barrier is required at one point.
The road between #10 and #17 is fairly quiet, but please be careful with geokids and geodogs. The main road through the village is busy, but there is a pedestrian crossing near #17 and a central refuge island for crossing by the roundabout.
