The LEH Baigent Memorial Reserve was set up under a 1982 covenant from Lewis Baigent a prominent Nelson sawmiller.
The sign on the gate says it is locked between sunset and sunrise but I must say it doesn't look as though it has moved for a while. The road goes through the reserve to private properties beyond.
Access to the beach in the inlet makes this a great place to swim and kayak - - when the tide is in. The outer beach is great for walks, swims, fishing. It's also a great place to exercise the dog but do make sure to keep it on a leash or under your control as blue penguins are known to nest in the area.
