#16 - We get engaged 💍

The time: about 11.30am on Saturday 2nd March, 2024.
The place: on top of Constitution Hill, Aberystwyth.
The event: Optimist on the run gets down on one knee and asks Harry the furry squid to marry him.
The outcome: She said yes!

What really happened...

We were staying near Aberystwyth for the weekend, as we were attending a reunion dinner of the Aberystwyth University Railway and Transport Society (RATS), which OOTR was a member of while at college. We had arranged as a group to go up the cliff lift that morning, which tied up with OOTR's plan to find somewhere suitable to ask the important question. Having shaken off the other RATS on the pretext of going to find a geocache, he saw the ideal spot - a bench looking out over the town. It was a sunny day, good views, no-one else about, perfect.

He asked HTFS to sit down as he had something to discuss. At this point he was interrupted when the rest of the RATS all turned up, having decided that now was the perfect time for a group photo, not being aware of OOTR's intentions. "Not now..." thought OOTR, but he patiently posed for the photo, thinking "You're all good mates, but please go away", or at least words to that effect. Meanwhile HTFS was wondering what he was going to say. Propose marriage? Dump her? Say he only had a week to live?

Eventually the others wandered off in the direction of the cafe, and OOTR was finally able to get down on one knee and propose, with the desired result.
