Spy-der Me's Grandchild has crawled off in search of his grandparent. However, he has left a small cylinder so that cachers can still search for a cache in this spot.
Since the original Spy-der Me cache was placed, it's home has decomposed and he has left for parts unknown. HOWEVER, his grandchild has found a new and different home nearby. As you head off the trail to ground zero, please watch out for wire fencing used many years ago to keep cows off the tracks. Also, depending on the season and/or amount of rainfall, it could be very wet/soggy getting to ground zero. It may or may not be winter friendly. Due to all these variables, and the hike, I'm rating it Terrain 3. (Maybe someone needs a 1.5/3 terrain for the grid??)
RAIL TRAIL UPDATE: A lot has transpired since I hid the previous cache in this vicinity in 2012. About a year ago (I'm writing this is July, 2024) the City of Sanford banned motorized vehicles (ATVs, dirt bikes and such) with the exception of the portion that is Snowmobile ITS 89 during the winter (snowmobiles only) and declared the trail an official city park. Class 1 & 2 electric bikes and bona fide handicapped conveyances are allowed. Maintenance vehicles are allowed with permission/notification to the Parks & Rec Department. The Trails Committee is scheduling trail upgrades (delayed by the destruction from the early April 2024 storm) and will do as much as the City Trails Committee finances will allow each year until the Sanford/Lebanon Line is reached. Also, land abutting parts of the rail trail has been acquired by Three Rivers Land Trust (Sanford Community Forest) and the Mousam Way Land Trust (McKeon Reserve). Our network of trails is Springvale is expanding and improving.
