Geocache Description:

Bring gumboots (especially in winter). Please don't remove the pencil or silica pack.

DO NOT CUT THE TAPE!!!!!

Please enjoy the cache, and don't slam the gate behind you! :D

There's space for trackables and plenty of swag to trade!

This cache has a habit of going swimming. Please replace in a manner so that it won't fall in the water. For more the guide on replacing the cache (spoilers), see bottom of description.

------

The Vierlanden Dog Park was established a few years ago in the Boland Dam Park. This gave dog owners in the area place for their dogs to run free as dogs aren't required to be on leads.

However, this has created a few problems for neighbours of the park, and the park itself. Firstly, it was developed without consultation of the neighbours (like the borderline illegal subdivision of plots by greedy developers nearby). Expensive fences were put up so the dogs did not run into the road, but people loudly slam the gates. The dogs in the park constantly bark at the dogs who live nextdoor to the park. The dog owners also do not always clean up after their pets, which attracts swarms of flies and cockroaches in summer. The indigenous water birds, such as yellow-billed ducks, Egyptian geese and red-knobbed coots, as well as some wild domestic geese, have long left the dam for good. Only small weavers and bishops live in the reeds. The frog population is also under threat. Field mice and lizards left long ago. There have also been a handful of instances where dogs attack one another or even children.

One of my other geocaches, The Rocky Dam Troll (GCB0NG7), was placed to contrast this cache. Visit this one to see how the Boland Dam park once felt, long ago.

GUIDE ON REPLACING THE CACHE: SPOILERS! DO NOT READ UNTIL AFTER YOU HAVE FOUND THE CACHE!
The wood must be wedged under the bridge so that it is perfectly parallel with the planks going widthwise across the bridge and perfectly perpendicular to the poles that span the length of the bridge. It does fit.
Please place it as far away from the middle of the bridge as possible, so that if it falls, it does not fall directly into the water. If this happens, the plank it is attached to will rot and the cache will get wet.
On that note, please put the lid on nice and tight (but don't break it) to make it as watertight as possible.

Thank you for finding my cache, and I hope this inspires you to hide creative caches yourself!
