This cache is placed at High Point Park in Etna, Ohio and is a small container yet big enough for trackables and other things. There is plenty of free parking all around the park. Please place the cache back as found and be aware of muggles that travel nearby.
In its current form, High Point Park was completed in 1995. As a town, Etna was laid out by Lyman Turrill, formerly from Vermont, in 1832 with lots selling for $3.00 to $5.00 each. The most important event in the history and formation of Etna was the building of the National Road or U.S. Route 40 in the 1800s, and it was the first highway built entirely with federal funds, according to the U.S. National Park Service (History of The National Road, https://www.nps.gov/articles/national-road.htm).
Turrill learned from a West Point graduate surveying the National Road that the site of his town was the highest point between Jacksontown and Columbus. He then decided to call it Etna after the volcano, Mount Etna, on the island of Sicily in Italy (which obviously has a high elevation), from the town's original name of Carthage.
Special shout out recognition goes to the State of Ohio High School Champs, Etna Eagles, who won the state baseball championship in 1936.
