Das Buch der Bücher
Bei manchen seit dem Religionsunterricht im Bücherregal verstaubt, bei anderen gehört es zur täglichen Lektüre. Kein anderes Buch hat die westliche Kultur, unsere Gesellschaft und unser Menschenbild so stark geprägt wie dieses: die Bibel. Mit Übersetzungen in knapp 500 Sprachen (und Teilübersetzung in 2500 Sprachen) ist es das meist gedruckte, am häufigsten übersetzte und am weitesten verbreitete Buch der Welt.
Die Bibel wird auch "lebendiges Wort" genannt, denn sie inspiriert und fasziniert auch heute noch Menschen überall auf der Erde. Auf den 10 Geboten baut unser Rechtssystem auf und durch das Alte und Neue Testament wurde unsere Vorstellung von Menschenwürde und Menschenrechten geprägt. Vielleicht ist auch das einer der Gründe, warum die Bibel in einigen Ländern verboten ist und ihr Besitz auch heute noch zu Haft- und sogar Todesstrafe führt.
Stille Post?
Wer jetzt denkt, bei der Bibel handele es sich um ein veraltetes Buch, dessen Inhalt über die Jahrhunderte im Sinne einer "stillen Post" grob verfälscht und abgeändert wurde, der irrt. Die Bibel, insbesondere das Neue Testament, ist das am glaubwürdigsten und besten durch historische Quellen belegte Schriftstück der Antike. Vom Neuen Testament existieren an die 5400 griechische Handschriften, die nur ca 20 - 40 Jahre von den tatsächlichen Ereignissen entfernt niedergeschrieben wurden. Die ersten gefundenen Abschriften des Neuen Testamenmts liegen nur 40-70 Jahre hinter den Originaltexten. Zum Vergleich: andere Klassiker der Antike von z.B. Caesar oder Homer haben nur einige Hunderte schriftliche Quellen, auf die wir uns beziehen können. Und der Zeitraum zwischen den Originalschriften und den ersten gefundenen Textzeugen beträgt dort 200 - 900 Jahre.
Detektive an Gottes Wort: auf der Suche nach dem Urtext
Genau zu diesem Thema forscht das Institut für Neutestamentliche Textforschung (INTF) der Uni Münster, zu dem auch das Bibelmuseum gehört. Es sammelt und vergleicht alle historischen Schriftquellen des Neuen Testaments um so den "Urtext" zu rekonstruieren. Somit liegt uns heute eine Version des Neuen Testamentes vor, welche nahezu identisch zum Originaltext aus dem 1. Jh. n. Chr. ist.
Die in Münster rekonstruierten Ausgaben des griechischen Neuen Testaments werden weltweit von allen großen Kirchen und wissenschaftlichen Ausbildungsstätten genutzt. Darüber hinaus bilden sie die Grundlage für fast alle modernen Bibelübersetzungen.
Das Museum
Wer gerne mehr von dieser spannenden Arbeit erfahren möchte, kann das Bibelmuseum kostenlos besuchen (Öffnungszeiten Di-So 10-18 Uhr, öffentliche Führung ohne Anmeldung So 15 Uhr). Hier könnt ihr unter anderem eine Bibel mit Originalinschrift des Reformators Martin Luther sowie einen Stein, der im berühmten Turm von Babel verbaut wurde, bestaunen. Auf Anfrage werden auch private Führungen angeboten.
Zum Cache
Der Cache befindet sich im Innenhof des Bibelmuseums auf Privatgrundstück. Der Eigentümer ist informiert und mit diesem Geocache einverstanden. Bitte keine Gewalt anwenden, alles was ihr braucht, findet sich am Cache. Bitte achtet am Ende darauf, den Tresor wieder richtig zu verschließen, damit auch alle Nachcacher Spaß am Rätseln haben können.
Anleitung zum korrekten Verschließen:
1) Box verschließen und Code einstellen
2) Rad nach rechts in Pfeilrichtung drehen
3) Code verstellen
Der Cache ist täglich von 10 Uhr bis 18 Uhr zu finden. (Teilweise auch noch später oder früher, solange das Haupttor geöffnet ist).
Das Museum ist Mo-Di von 10:00 - 18:00 geöffnet. Jeden zweiten Freitag im Monat ist sogar bis 22 Uhr geöffnet.

The Book of Books
For some, it's been gathering dust on their bookshelves since religious education classes; for others, it's part of their daily reading. No other book has shaped Western culture, our society, and our understanding of humanity as profoundly as this one: the Bible. With translations into nearly 500 languages (and partial translations into 2,500), it is the most printed, most translated, and most widely distributed book in the world. The Bible is also called the "living word" because it continues to inspire and fascinate people all over the world. Our legal system is based on the Ten Commandments, and our understanding of human dignity and human rights was shaped by the Old and New Testaments. Perhaps this is also one of the reasons why the Bible is banned in some countries and why possession of it can still lead to imprisonment and even the death penalty.
Chinese whispers?
Anyone who thinks the Bible is an outdated book whose content has been grossly distorted and altered over the centuries like a game of "Chinese whispers" is mistaken. The Bible, especially the New Testament, is the most credible and best-documented text of antiquity. Around 5,400 Greek manuscripts of the New Testament exist, written only about 20 to 40 years after the actual events. The earliest discovered copies of the New Testament are only 40 to 70 years behind the original texts. By comparison, other classics of antiquity, such as those by Caesar or Homer, have only a few hundred written sources to which we can refer. And the period between the original writings and the first discovered textual witnesses in those cases is 200 to 900 years.
Detectives of God's Word: In Search of the Original Text
The Institute for New Testament Textual Research (INTF) at the University of Münster, which also includes the Bible Museum, conducts research precisely on this topic. It collects and compares all historical written sources of the New Testament in order to reconstruct the "original text." Thus, we now have a version of the New Testament that is almost identical to the original text from the 1st century AD. The reconstructed editions of the Greek New Testament in Münster are used worldwide by all major churches and academic institutions. Furthermore, they form the basis for almost all modern Bible translations.
The Museum
Anyone interested in learning more about this fascinating work can visit the Bible Museum free of charge (open Tue-Sun 10 am-6 pm, public guided tour without registration Sun 3 pm). Here you can admire, among other things, a Bible with an original inscription by the reformer Martin Luther, as well as a stone that was used in the famous Tower of Babel. Private tours are also available upon request.
About the Cache
The cache is located in the courtyard of the Bible Museum on private property. The owner has been informed and has given his consent to this geocache. Please do not use force; everything you need is at the cache. Please make sure to properly lock the safe afterward so that all subsequent geocachers can also enjoy solving the puzzle.
Instructions for correct locking:
1) Close the box and set the code.
2) Turn the dial to the right in the direction of the arrow.
3) Change the code.
The cache can be found daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. (Sometimes earlier or later, as long as the main gate is open.) The museum is open Monday and Tuesday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Every second Friday of the month, it's even open until 10:00 PM.
