原本的外雙溪，並不是在洲美這位置匯入基隆河的。
1960年代起，外雙溪與基隆河進行了截彎取直，一方面將基隆河舊河道改道另築，另一方面拉直了外雙溪，並直接注入基隆河。
洲美蜆仔港公園這個位置便是過去外雙溪的舊河道，現在改建為溼地公園，並作為抽水站及滯洪池之用。
另外，對岸的雙溪溼地公園，則是過去的舊基隆河道。
