Herring Island is a small 3.2ha artificial island located in South Yarra, approximately 4kms from the city centre, usually only accessible by watercraft. This event is being held to coincide with the NGV event which has special access planned for the weekend which will allow you to cross a temporary floating bridge to Herring Island. The floating bridge is accessible from Como Landing, Richmond.
Herring Island is best known for its unique sculpture park consisting of nine environmental sculptures, interwoven into the parks’ landscape created by internationally renowned artists. And for geocachers, it also has three traditional caches and one virtual.
We will meet on the Sunday afternoon at 3.30pm to say hi at the picnic area, which has undercover shelter. Please bring your own refreshments, there are drinking fountains on the island and toilet facilities, which should be available on this NGV weekend.
