The Orca is a fictional fishing boat featured in the 1975 movie “Jaws,” directed by Steven Spielberg. The Orca was captained by Quint (Robert Shaw), a grizzled shark hunter who seemed haunted by his experiences on the USS Indianapolis, a real naval vessel. The USS Indianapolis was sunk July 30, 1945, after being torpedoed by a Japanese submarine shortly after delivering components of the atomic bombs that would be dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan. As many as 900 men survived the initial sinking, though many died after shark attacks, dehydration and salt poisoning while waiting to be rescued. Quint’s famous speech aboard the Orca about surviving the USS Indianapolis sinking is a great piece of cinema.
I am adding some caches along Southwest Boatramp Avenue, and decided to use a fictional boat theme for the cache names. This is also part of a series to help my bride, SparkPlug205, with her calendar fills.
