Welcome to Cross Lots. There is a sign directing you to the parking lot for this preserve on West Ave across from the local library. You can also park behind Essex Town Hall and walk over. Preserve is open to the public sunrise to sunset.
Cross Lots offers a progression of landcape experiences. Stone walls surround the house precint, and beyond, the landscape offers varied habitats: field, grove and forest. Cross Lots is managed in a unique manner, mindful of the need for a vanishing habitat that was once common in Connecticut. You can also visit a pollinator garden. This preserve is a favorite for dogs and their owners. Enjoy the views as you walk the trails of this preserve and imagine how Connecticut used to be.
