The first stone church on this site was built in the 13th century and is said to have housed the Shrine of St Gwyndaf making it a stopping place for pilgrims on the pilgrimage to Ynys Enlli/Bardsey Island. The church we see here today was erected in 1847/8, designed by George Alexander of London and built over the original church cruciform foundations. It houses various items from the previous church including a17/18th century chest and communion table. There are a number of monuments fixed to the walls which date from 1612 to 1914.
