The 1980s film ‘Phar Lap’ was centred at Adaminaby Racecourse , where the Mexican Agua Caliente Racecourse scenes were filmed. A plywood grandstand was erected for the purpose, and locals employed as eager movie extras.
The final parts of the movie see Phar Lap invited to the biggest race in the world ,where he comes from a stunning last at one stage to swoop on the field and win despite blood coming out of its legs during the race.One of its many incredible victories. This was sadly his last race ,just as he was about to take the US by storm.
