Geocache Description:

Additional information about the M4 Adventure Labs (including all physical bonuses) is provided at the end of this page, and waypoints show lots of useful locations

Welcome to the M4 Adventure Labs

This series is designed to be played from Leigh Delamere Service Station on the M4 (either side: Eastbound or Westbound), or from layby on the local road crossing the motorway (just north of the service station).

There is a 2 hour parking limit in Leigh Delamere Service Station enforced by cameras. If you want to park for longer then use the layby on the local road, accessed via Junction 17 (you aren’t permitted to drive through service station access entrances).

All parking waypoints and other information are given on the page for the bonus GCAXB1C “M4 Adventure Labs #001”

We now have sufficient adlabs and bonuses that they will take longer than 2 hours to complete in one visit. If you want to complete everything currently published in one visit then we recommend using the sideroad lay-by which is a very short diversion. Many people enjoy breaking up completing the adlabs with walking for some bonuses. There is a list of all the bonuses on the page for the bonus GCAXB1C “M4 Adventure Labs #001”.

We welcome new creators who can join our project, even if you’ve never created your own Adventure before. Anyone can get an AdLab credit every 3 months. We would like to see this series grow. For full details please contact us at M4AdLabs@gmail.com

We hope you enjoy our project

This is the bonus cache for M4 Adventure Labs #001. There is no cache at the headline coordinates (these are the coordinates for the Eastbound car park).  You will receive the final coordinates when you complete the M4 Adventure Lab #001. The bonus is located outside the Service Station along the local road which crosses the Motorway.

There is a footbridge between Leigh Delamere Eastbound and Westbound sides if needed.  You can also walk through the access exits from Leigh Delamere Service Station to the east of both west and east sides, and walk along over the Motorway road bridge.

The final container is large enough for most trackables.

Please replace sticker side up so that the water seal works correctly.

This section has additional information and updates regarding the M4 Adventure Lab series

Leigh Delamere Service Station is a short distance to the west of Junction 17 along the M4. In addition to Motorway access for vehicles, it is possible to walk in and out of the rear entrances (on both sides of the Motorway). There is a layby 300m north of the service station to leave cars.

The playing distance for these adventures is 500m. You can play them in your car, inside the Service Station with a coffee or meal, inside the Travelodge, from multiple seating areas outside the Service Station, from the old quarry (see Earthcache) which is quiet, walking out of the Service Station for exercise, and even into woods (Stanton woods are a short distance north, see map). These are all within the playing distance and make a good break to your journey. I recommend the old quarry (Eastbound side) and woods near the layby (north of the service station, see waypoints) as quiet locations to escape the noise and people around the motorway.

There is free WiFi service inside the service station if your network provider is playing up. Many cachers have sat in a cafe area and used WiFi here.

There are electric car chargers here, these adventures can be played from the charging station locations.

Facilities at Leigh Delamere include the usual facilities such as toilets, fuel station, Electric car chargers, free WiFi, and also M&S, Greggs, Costa, Pret, KFC, Burger King, WH Smiths, Cotton Traders, Chow (Asian food) and a Travelodge hotel on both sides.

Eastbound services have many more outside picnic benches than Westbound. I've included waypoints.

There is a footbridge between Service Station sides and a local access road (note that cars are not permitted to use the entrance / exit from the Service Station to the local access road, but you can walk through to the bonus caches).

It is possible to get within about one mile of the Service Station using public transport. The Faresaver 44K currents runs at roughly hourly intervals through the middle of the day from Chippenham bus station and Chippenham railway station to Kington St Michael. If you take this option then alight at the furthest stop (Kington St Michael, Ridings Shelter). The bus turns round here. Be aware that a 300m section of the road in between Kington St Michael and Leigh Delamere is narrow, does not have a footpath, and there is a national speed limit.

Chippenham Railway station has a steady supply of taxis which could take you to the Service Station. It is 5 miles to Leigh Delamere Service Station from the railway station, specify your destination as Leigh Delamere rear entrance Eastbound side (there is plenty of space to drop you at the entrance or just inside the car park by the Travelodge).

All the Adventure Labs are accessible to everyone from the locations identified. This bonus is not accessible to wheelchair users although it is possible to get a wheelchair to within a few metres.

There are clothes washing machines and dryers (pay per use, see waypoints) and I'm told that there are free showers in the Westbound services (let me know if you have a waypoint).
