Big Mac, Mark McGwire's anniversary of breaking the single season home run record (9/8/98) is coming up the week this was placed.
I was at the game in STL the day he smoked a ball an estimated 545 feet off the St Louis Post Dispatch sign in center. That distance is insane! To put into comparison, this cache is located roughly 488 feet from home plate in the baseball field to the west. That means his ball was hit hard enough to go from home plate into this beautiful lake. Being out here is the only way to really fathom that distance. And, while you're here, there's a beautiful lake view about 100' to the south of this cache. Definitely worth the view!
My Son, Cam, and I spent our Saturday carefully placing these in the area after spending about 2 weeks plotting the area and building caches.
Fellow Cacher Family, Silent.H has secured permission from the Jacksonville Park District to place these caches. Nichols Park is absolutely beautiful and this series of caches will take you through the entire park. https://jacksonvilleil.org/business-directory/nichols-park/ Park hours are sunrise to sunset, please be respectful of their hours. And, please CITO if you're able. Keeping our parks clean is our duty.
If you found this without the hint, the cache is 2 pieces. The log should be under the red part that's on top, it comes off.
